Sometimes, you get the honor of coordinating and designing for a friendor. A vendor who has become a friend over the course of the years. Stephanie of Stephanie Hamlet Photography is such a friend. This girl is amazing, and I highly recommend her for wedding, engagement, and family photography! Her Halloween wedding at Sweet Home Plantation to long time sweetheart Chris (he's pretty awesome, too!) was perfect! Check out all the goodness below.

Wellness Wednesday - Shakeology Review

"I have used every protein shake that every fitness person recommended to me. I found some that tasted ok and some that did not. It was hit or miss and none of them left me really satisfied. I am a volume eater and I admit it. As a former overweight person, I obviously got that way because I like to eat—that has not changed just because I lost weight. I still enjoy eating and I do like to feel full. If I was really good at stopping my food intake before I became stuff, I probably would never have gotten over weight would I? Shakeology does for me what the other protein shakes did not. I drink it and I am not even thinking of food for around 4 hours—which for me is a long time! How many protein shakes can you honestly say stand the test of making it inbetween meals? Shakeology is the only one.

I have always taken several different kinds of supplements and let me tell you—that adds up in a month! I got as many fresh supplements as possible and would take all kinds of healthy things to boost my vitamin and mineral intake. With Shakeology, I was able to stop all those supplements. So honestly, that helped defer the cost of Shakeology. I spent around $20-$30 a month on all my minerals and now, I do not have to do that. Also—I do not buy as many items at the grocery store because I know I am getting all my nutrtients from Shakeology. I would buy foods I didn’t even really like just because I knew my body needed to be healthy. I ate certain veggies that I thought were odd and did not taste well either just because we all know it is important to eat a wide variety. I do not do that now. Of course I still eat lots n lots of veggies—but only the ones I like because Shakeology is making up for the nutritients I am missing.

The price of Shakeology really can turn some people off. Honestly though, it is a meal replacement (or you can use it as a protein shake, either way most people do not eat for 4 hours afterward). How much did you spend on that healthy meal at Texas Roadhouse last Saturday night? I bet it was a lot more than the $4 that Shakeology costs! How much did you spend at the little Bistro for lunch with the girls at work on Tuesday? I bet it was a lot more than the $4 Shakeology costs! Now, anyone wanna bet which one was more healthy? Which one has 37 doctors with their name signed in ink backing their product up? Which one guarantees to promote good health? Shakeology is the only one. I was always a sucker for Starbucks Skinny Latte—I spent 4.75 every morning of my life and it did not leave me full? I still had to eat breakfast! All I did was cut the Starbucks out and there is my Shakeology money! How many times have you paid $6 for that healthy fruit smoothie at Jama Juice? Do you know that when they say real fruit, um they mean real fruit juice? I went to a local smoothie café a year ago because they were advertising real orange fruit smoothies. I wanted one soooo badly! I however have a lot of stomach issues so I have to ask what is in everything before I eat it. As I was asking the cashier, she of course had to get the manager. Their REAL FRUIT smoothie had no oranges in it! It had orange juice! LIES LIES LIES. Drop the fake smoothies, drop the Starbucks, drop the lunches out, drop the supplements and you’ve actually saved money by purchasing Shakeology.

I know what you are thinking—how is it any different than any other shake on the market. I said the same thing!! I told everyone it had to be a gimmick. Until I read the package. I had spent months talking about how it wasn’t any different when I didn’t even read the box. 72 healthy ingredients in shake. How many healthy ingredients in other protein shakes? I am sure it’s not 72. Each shake equals 5 plates of veggies. 5!! Not 1, but 5! I like veggies, but not really 5 plates worth, LOL. Who has anything comparable? No one because I have checked. I also had to go back and ‘eat’ my words. I have had to tell all those people that I was wrong. I spoke before I had gotten the nutritional knowledge. Lesson learned.

Honestly, how much do you spend on your favorite pair of jeans? Is it worth it to you to feel good in those jeans? How would you feel knowing those jeans looked great on you?

Spending money on your health is the best investment you will ever make and I am sure you will see the investment was worth it when you live a long, healthy life. Investing in your health is the one thing in life that Americans do not do. We invest in the stock market and look what happened in the recession. Invest in something that will reap YOU the benefit. In the end, is it not your health that matters most? What good does it do to have a great yield in the stock market if you are on the verge of a heart attack?

Wedding Wellness - Crystal's TurboJam review

Crystal has an amazing story, and is one of the most upbeat people I know. She is also a Beachbody Coach. Having tried a few of their dvd's, it is by far the best home workout company I have ever come across. Here's what Crystal has to say about Chalene Johnson's TurboJam:

My story began after my son was born. I delivered him at 216.5lbs with a 9lb baby, yet left the hospital at 215lbs!?! I was very depressed. I was always a petite , 115lbs on my 5'2 stature. I gained 100lbs with pregnancy and never lost it. I began my journey 9/17/2003 and found BeachBody in 2005. I was up late watching an infomercial and I saw a cutsie blonde talking about a friend of hers who lost weight with the program she created. That is when Chalene Johnson changed my life. I started using Turbo Jam and I have never looked back. Turbo Jam is cardio kickboxing with abs (the amount of core work is unbelievable! The first time I did the workout I thought I had the flu because I was so sore in my abs/muffin top) and strength training all in one program. Every move is modifiable to meet any fitness level: beginner, intermediate, or advanced. I started barely able to do the Turbo Jam 20 minute workout and now even 6 years late—I still do Turbo Jam but have found a true love in the Cardio Party’s. Turbo Jam is different from other workouts because of the music, it’s fun, and Chalene has a way of motivating you to believe in yourself even when you feel like you are hopeless. She will push you to your maximum before you ever even learn what you max is! I attribute my entire 100lb weight loss to her because I wasn’t losing weight before I found Turbo Jam—instead I was yo-yoing back and forth because I had not found an exercise that clicked with me.

I was a slow loser and didn't hit goal of 125lbs until 12/20/2008. I never gave up. It was my life's goal to feel good about myself. I believe that God put that journey in my life so that I could help others. It is my life's passion to help someone who may have felt like I did. Wedding Wellness - The art of relaxing

Wedding planning and stress go hand in hand. Like peanut butter and jelly shots at an after party.

To keep yourself from turning into a weeping mess, my biggest and best piece of advice is this:

Hire professionals.

If you can afford to, hire a planner. If not, you NEED a month of coordinator (and remember that you get what you pay for to the nth degree in the wedding world). Hire a professional cake artist, DJ/Master of Ceremonies/Band/Ensemble, caterer, florist, rental company, make up artist, etc.

The easiest way to relax while wedding planning is to entrust your amazing, unique, one-of-a-kind wedding to people you know will go above and beyond to ensure you are thrilled with the outcome.

Wedding Wellness - When to take a break

Yes. It happens. Especially to brides and grooms who like to micro manage or procrastinate, and to a lot of couples who work full time, have a full social calendar, and decide not to hire a planner. Wedding overload.

It's ugly. It starts when you realize that your custom invites need custom wording for your non-traditional ceremony and you don't have a clue about etiquette for today's weddings. Then you decide you don't want a traditional cake, or do you? Maybe you should have your attendants pick out their own gowns/suits, but there is the one (you know, the one who should be on an un-named TLC show with Stacy and Clinton) whose "fashion sense" has less in the bank than the Federal Government at the moment.

The wild-eyed, frenzied, hot-glue gun and tulle disaster is right around the bend.

Stop. Call up some friends for a weekend get away, go buy something together for your new digs (do NOT go start/add/modify a registry), exercise a little retail therapy, go out dancing, get a mani/pedi at your favorite spa, but STOP THE WEDDING PLANNING!

You will have a beautiful day, no matter what, because you and your intended will become "us", "them" and "that old married couple" with loved ones there to witness the magic. There is no reason to spend 25/8 planning your wedding. Take a breather, and when you are refreshed and relaxed, then you can jump right back in.

And actually enjoy the process :)

Planning Earth Friendly Wedding Flowers - Earth Day April 22, 2011

In preparation for Earth Day 2011, here is another way you can incorporate eco friendly elements into your wedding.

When planning an eco-friendly wedding, considering the floral elements may seem like a daunting task, but really, it is not. There are several ways you can attain environmentally friendly and amazingly beautiful wedding flowers.

First, you can grow your own flowers in a perennial cut flower garden. Most cut flower varieties are very hardy, you just have to know what is in season when. The benefit of growing your own is the cost, and you have total control over what going to be in your floral arrangements. If you need some help figuring out what is in season and when it needs to be planted, there are multiple Master Gardener programs, and if you ask, I'm sure a local Master Gardener would be happy to help you figure out what to plant for your special day!

If you decide to have a florist produce your eco friendly wedding flowers, you need to make certain that the flowers and florist are VeriFlora certified. This means that the flowers are sustainably grown, that the labor used to grow the flowers is Fair Trade, and that your wedding flowers are an environmentally conscious part of your wedding.

For your centerpieces, consider having "breakaway" herbs or potted plants that your guests may take home as favors. This will reduce your cost, and allow your guests to have a living memory of your special day! Check out Ecospheres for adorable enclosed eco-systems, and Greenfeet.com for other great ideas (and they also have a registry!). Look for recycled metal and glass and even plastic containers to hold your beautiful centerpieces. Try baskets full of apples or pears for unique centerpieces/favors and then donate the leftovers to local homeless or women's shelters.

Happy St. Ptrick's Day! Irish Wedding Traditions for your enjoyment!

We have a strong lineage of Irish roots (with a little Scottish thrown in) and we LOVE celebrating Saint Patrick's Day. Here are a few Irish Wedding Traditions you might decide to incorporate, or at the very least, enjoy learning a few wedding superstitions you might not have been familiar with before.

* Meade is a honey wine served at weddings because it was believed to promote virility. It was also consumed by the newly weds for a month after the wedding, from whence the term "Honeymoon" is derived.

* A lucky horseshoe is carried by the bride, turned so that the luck will not fall out, and you will find these horseshoes hung over entrance doorways (still turned up to keep all the luck inside) all over Ireland.

An Irish Wedding Blessing:

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon the fields. May the light of friendship guide your paths together. Wedding Wellness - The Fit Faux Pas

Leading up to the big day, there are many challenges faced by both sides of every couple, but weight plagues us all. For your wedding you want the dress or suit to fit well, and we would all like to have J. Crew worthy figures. Enter the dreaded "D" word.

Diet. Yes, it is an awful word. I recommend healthy eating and exercise combined in a doctor approved fashion specific to each individual. However, there are pills, fads, drinks, etc that inundate the market in general and target people who search for wedding related items.

Be Aware: If you only "diet" and cut calories and do not combine it with exercise, your body will burn muscle for energy, not fat. That will NOT give you the desired results.

Have you ever seen a flabby thin person? You know the ones. The perfect size 4 with cellulite? Yeah, that's why. You want to burn fat for energy to get rid of all the deposits.

That is your Wedding Wellness tip for today!

Eco Friendly Fare for your Wedding - Earth Day is April 22nd!

In honor of Earth Day 2011 (April 22nd) we are running a few eco-friendly ideas here on the blog for you to consider when planning your wedding!

If you are having a special event, you probably have not thought about the environmental impact a wedding or special event may have. So here are a few basic points of interest. The average wedding produces between 14.5 and 22 tons of CO2. That is a lot of greenhouse gas and a huge carbon footprint. And that is just the event itself, that number actually increases for weekend long events like destination weddings. So if you want to lessen the environmental impact of your event I will be covering different ways you can reduce your special event's carbon footprint. This post is about food. One of the most important parts of any celebration.

How do you make green (no, that doesn't mean you have to have only veggies) choices for your special event menu? Look for caterers who utilize local and organically grown produce and meats that are in season. You will not believe how fresh and fabulous your food will be. And you not only help the environment by doing this, you help your local economy by supporting small businesses and local farms. Make sure your caterer understands you want all local and organic products used, not partially local (ie. it got flown in the day before you event from a neighboring state as air travel is one of the highest carbon emitting ways to travel or ship things) so that you and your guests have the best and freshest possible dishes. Also look for a caterer who will provide to go boxes of food for the wedding party and will recycle all the glass, metal, and plastics as well as compost the leftover food. That way everyone benefits including you! If you are local to Atlanta, check out Parsley's Catering in Marietta.

What about the beverage side of your menu? Well, if you have not had organic or bio dynamically grown wines, you are in for a treat. Napa Valley has some of the best local vineyards that produce great and environmentally friendly wines. Most can be found at your local liquor store where you will receive a discount on cases (bonus!) and you will also be able to find organic vodka, scotch, and several other liquors are joining the green movement. Check out Robert Sinskey for amazing eco friendly wines and they have great pairing recipes to go with them! Go to Starbucks for fair trade certified coffee and tea for your non-alcoholic selections. Sugar Art : Edible artwork, Sugar sweet keepsake

The gorgeous magnolia pictured above (courtesy of Sweet Sensations) is edible, will never change color, and can become a lasting memory of your special event. Sugar art, be it flowers, leaves, characters, or a sweet baby figurine, is consumable art that can be kept for as long as you take care of it.

My reasons for keeping sugar art:

Sugar art is art. It takes lots of time and a huge amount of talent and creative ability. It is an investment in the overall effect of your special event. If your event is your wedding, how cool is it to have a lasting piece of art created just for your special day displayed in your home?

Because sugar art takes so much time and talent, it is expensive. Why would you pay for something you can keep as a memento, and then just toss it?

If you are having sugar flowers or other sugar art on your cake, let your caterer know ahead of time that you would like to keep the flowers/etc. and where the sturdy container is for them to be stored. Note: Extremely delicate edges may get damaged during removal, but most likely will still be usable.

V-day is getting close! Are you planning a proposal?

It is that time of year, again. V-Day. The day when many tremble in fear of getting the wrong card, wrong chocolates, or wondering if their significant other really meant "nothing is OK". Add to that the decision to propose and you are close to having a Hitchcock-esque moment of screaming in the shower waiting for the box of chocolates to beat you to death.

Breathe.

OK? Great, now here we go. You have options. Professional Planners and Designers may not advertise it, but just about every single one of us is willing to design and style an amazing proposal event for you. Be willing to spend some money to make it an unforgettable evening complete with professional photographers to catch the moment. It is totally worth it.

If that isn't your style, here are a few tips to consider:
- Pick a spot that means something to you both. First date/kiss/meeting location, etc. Or perhaps her parents house after you ask permission (oldschool, but yes, it is utterly romantic and you ARE in the South so it is expected). Do something authentic to you, as a couple.

- Get the best ring you can afford. If you need help with style, check under the bed, in the night stand, or browsing history on the computer and you are sure to find some clues as to the rings that make your (hopefully) future partner swoon. If you are a little more direct, just ask, or ask close friends.

A ring is an investment. There are all kinds of traditional rules you can find as to how much you should spend, etc. Ignore them and go with your gut. But remember, as Holly Golightly said, "You could always tell what kind of a person a man thinks you are by the earrings he gives you. I must say, the mind reels." The same applies to engagement rings.

- Spend some time before thinking about what you want to say, but don't expect to remember it all exactly at the moment you do propose. But don't worry. You'll have the rest of your life to say all the wonderful things you thought of, over and over again.

Statements - How do you make them?

Today I am going to let you in on a small part of my design process. Inspiration boards take many forms depending on who is putting them together. Inspiration boards are wonderful. You can refer to color chips, invitation card stock, gown pictures, and fabric samples throughout the planning process. They are an invaluable tool for planners and brides and grooms alike. That being said, I do not start with an inspiration board.

I begin with a Concept board. What is a concept board? The above picture is a bare bones model of a concept board. It is not detailed with every thing an Inspiration board should have. It is just the basic concept. The feel you are going for. What is it that you want to create for your event. A collage of flowing ideas to create a moment in time that is an exact representation of who you are, what you love, and the statement you desire to make.

Your Concept board is the first step toward your inspiration board, and just like your inspiration board, will change a few times before all is said and done.

The above Concept board is Victorian Dream. (Don't laugh, but it's a scrapbook I'm currently plotting out, so Concept and Inspiration boards can be used for more than event planning. I recommend using them for interior decorating, a lot!) The purple night sky, beautiful white gardenias and garden roses, and touches of antique gold with sparkling crystal and candles to mimic the starlight. Very Romantic!

The Inspiration board would contain your specific Pantone Purples and Golds, swatches of the bridal gown fabric, table linens, bridesmaids/groomsmen fabrics, pictures of floral elements, swatches of floral ribbons, venue pictures, and the list goes on. But the Concept board would be integrated into each facet of your design,allowing your Statement to come through flawlessly!

Wedding Vendor Contracts - A very important provision

Before you sign any contract with a vendor for your wedding, check to see if one really important detail is included. IF something happens to prevent this vendor from being able to perform their contracted duties (aside from force majeure clauses) for your wedding, what are your options? Will they provide equal or better backup? Do they have a partner that can take their place if they get sick? Are you provided with a contact number for an emergency backup if they are a no show? These are not happy things to contemplate, but sometimes things happen beyond anyone's control and it is best to be prepared.

This is also another good reason to hire a weekend of coordinator to assist you in planning your wedding weekend. We all have vendor numbers stored in our cell phones that we can use for last minute emergencies if they arise. They usually do not, but better safe than sorry. If your vendor does not have a contingency plan in their contract, ask for one to be written in before you sign the contract. It should be written in and initialed by both parties before the contract is signed.

Typically, I work only with the bride, often with her mother, also. My favorite part of working with brides is that so often I have brides who come to me so worried that the dream dress they bought isn’t going to fit or look perfect for their wedding. I get to be the hero who makes it all just right! Seeing tears of anxiety turn into tears of joy is the best ‘perk’ I can think of!

Random factoid:

Ok –this is really weird, but, I hate water. I bath and shower because I have to. I drink water because I have to. I don’t like water on my skin. I don’t swim unless I am absolutely dying of heat. If there were a dry cleaning process for people – I would SO be there!

Happy Holidays!

The Holiday season is a time when I clean out and prepare for the New Year. As I was cleaning out, I came across a stack of buried legal pads, and in the back of one was a seating chart from a 2008 wedding. I remember this particular bride and groom, their beautiful baby, and their wonderful family. The father was battling cancer for the second time, but was so determined to walk his little girl down the aisle. And he did. And I teared up a little, but when it came time for the Daddy Daughter dance, there was not a dry eye in the reception hall. You could have walked on the air, it was so heavy with love, and it was truly one of the sweetest moments I can ever remember having the privilege of witnessing. I get chills just thinking of it. Thank you for those memories!

Each couple, individual, and group have all had sweet special moments, thoughtful gestures, and amazing stories. The love that has shown through in every event is one of the many blessings I get from the wonderful, albeit not always easy, career that I love so dearly. I am grateful to have each of you as a friend.

I am so very blessed to have had all of you in my life! My first Atlanta wedding couple, who, last year, had a sweet little boy on my birthday! The meteorologist duo with perfect weather, the wonderful Emory wedding with the Dragon! decor, the challenge of bringing the Bahamas to Atlanta, and so many more that I cannot imagine my life without each of the special and magic moments of which you allowed me to be a part. My life is better because of each of you!

To each of our friends, clients, and future clients I wish a deliriously happy Holiday season and a New Year filled with many more blessings and happy memories. I look forward to keeping in touch and working together again!

Random factoid:
I frequently give people my Skymiles number when I'm supposed to give them my social security number or my tax ID. I travel a ton and I love it, but it makes real life confusing at times. Living out of suitcases, having travel sized everything, and knowing airport employees better than some of my neighbors is just weird.

We are looking for a few new additions to our team! This position requires a lot of virtual office work. The hours are part-time and, during the week, are flexible. You will be trained in all the giddy details of wedding and event management, as well as getting hands on experience in the event organizational aspects of weddings and social events. You will also be in charge of managing interns during events. We expect a lot from our team members when it comes to professionalism and we encourage input, suggestions, and creativity. This position is an independent contractor position that may lead to part-time employment. You will be expected to attend a minimum of 5 training classes during your initial 60 days. You will be required to sign a no compete form.

When I began researching Tri Cities wedding venues, I cam across the most amazing venue site, Wedity. Virtual venue tours through wedding photographs submitted by local photographers. Well the brain behind Wedity also happens to be a very talented photographer.

Eric about his love of weddings and special moments in them:
My favorite part is right after the recessional when the B&G turn the corner and no one else is looking. I've seen the most stiff, tense couples melt in a passionate, eye-melting kiss when that mounting pressure is finally released. One word from the photographer and the moment evaporates. That's why I love being quiet, watching, and capturing throughout the day. When the couple looks at the images right after the honeymoon and says something like "Wow! You were everywhere and nowhere!", I've done my job well.

My second-cousin is recording artist Bebo Norman. (We've only met once, but don't tell anybody!)

World War II Bridal Shoot on Style Unveiled

I was honored when Melissa Hume e-mailed me with an idea for a shoot at Falcon Field's Dixie Wing Hangar. I was even more excited when she said "Whatever you can dream up, they are letting us use the P-51 Mustang!" I (literally) jumped for joy. No, really. I was beyond excited.

I have my Grandmother's diary from 1945, the year she and my would-be Papaw got serious. I cannot even begin to tell you (she's probably reading this, so I won't disclose any actual entries) how different things were then. But I can tell you that the men and women that lived through that challenging time in our history were amazing and strong beyond imagining.

The Soldier Groom pictured is my Papaw, and that photo was taken in Japan after the bomb was dropped and history was forever changed. Papaw passed away in April of 1984 so I was really excited to share this with him in a small way. I took bits of Grandmother's diary, a little musical inspiration, and a flood of loving memories (my own and those shared with me by others) of both my Papaw Fred and my Papaw Stoots (both WWII veterans) to create a style authentic to the spirit of the 1940's with a few modern twists.

What inspires you most? I find inspiration from a variety of places, people, and images. I am a museum lover, I read all the time, I love nature, art, and most of all, theatre. Each wedding and event is a production with a completely new, never before seen script, and I get to set the stage for the most important moment in my clients’ lives. That moment is incredibly inspiring.

What is your favorite color and why? Purple. It is versatile, regal, elegant, and has an aura of boldness that I find very appealing.

What is your favorite fashion accessory and why? Anything that sparkles, but always in moderation. Nail polish, necklace, earrings, handbag, shoes, belts, as long as it gives a dazzle (not a blinding light) I love it!

What is your favorite part of working with couples during their wedding? Seeing how they develop as a couple during the 6 to 18 months I have the pleasure of working with them. The details you can pull from those precious months of planning always amaze me.

Researching Wedding Planners and Coordinators

Some brides know from the beginning that they want a planner, but they may not have the budget to hire a reputable planner for full planning. Rather than hiring a planner who promises Dom Perignon service and planning and "deals" from all their recommended vendors for a Bud Light budget, do your research. Most professional planners (people who have planning as their full time job, with licenses and insurance, etc.) offer a "Month of" or "Weekend of" planning service. If you hire a reputable planner for these services from the beginning of your planning process you will be able to get a quality vendor referral for any vendors you need from your planner.

No matter what your budget is, there are good solid vendors in every price point, and rather than shoving you into meetings with low end vendors that the planner receives a financial incentive from (which is more common with "bargain" planners), a reputable planner will give you referrals for reputable vendors that are within your price point. A good planner will work for you because they are doing their job as a professional wedding consultant and that means making sure everything goes according to design. A budget planner is more likely to work for their own interest by recommending vendors they receive referral fees (kickbacks) from because they are concerned more with making a few dollars than making sure their brides are happy and that the wedding is set up for success from the initial planning stages.

You will get what you pay for, so consider all options before you make a decision either to not have a planner or coordinator at all or to hire a bargain priced planner for your wedding day. Happy (pre) Planning!

Veterans Day is the anniversary of the symbolic end of World War I on November 11, 1918. The date was declared a national holiday in many allied nations to help remember those lost during the war. After World War II, the holiday was changed to Veteran's Day in the United States.

So as you go about your business today, remember to thank all the Military men and women, and the ones they have left behind to wait patiently and fearfully, for everything they have sacrificed and done for our country. Thank you, all.

Ideas for Grooms to make the wedding experience even more awesome!

A recent groom (who took romantic to the next level) inspired this post. (Congrats again, Linz and Rob!) For those of you who need a little inspiration to make your sweetheart's wedding weekend even more amazing, read on!

Things to consider:

Have flowers/fruit/candy/etc. delivered to the rooms of your parents and future in-laws while the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner is going on.

Send a sweet note each day of the week leading up to the wedding to your significant other. (Things like your favorite moment, the thing you are most looking forward to, etc)

Request a special breakfast (Your partner's favorite) sent to their room/delivered by a reliable friend accompanied by a note or card on the wedding morning to begin their day beautifully.

Secretly request your band/DJ to play a song that means something special to you both like the first song you danced to, the song playing when you first kissed, etc, to surprise your new spouse during the reception.

If you have a nice voice, consider a serenade on the way to the wedding suite!

Arrange for a breakfast/brunch in bed to be brought to your room for your first morning together as an "old married couple" or your first honeymoon morning if you are traveling the day after your nuptials.

Put a little extra thought into what you can do to make your wedding even more memorable for your to-be!

Enhancing your tablescapes

Tablescapes are a very important part of your reception decor. They really set the mood for your guests. Your tablescapes include the linens, silver, glasses, centerpieces, accents such as chair sashes, votive candles, and unique place cards.

One design element that is often overlooked is the napkins and how they are folded. There are so many different types of folds, it is like Origami for linen. Here are a few, and some great resource links where you can find detailed instructions with actual pictures of the finished product!

The Marriage part of Planning Your Wedding

This is a revisit to an older post, but one that I dearly love, and think is always appropriate! Enjoy!

How do you want your MARRIAGE to start? Aside from the obvious answer, "Duh, with a wedding" what could I possibly mean?

Most bridal consultations include the usual questions: What are your colors? How many guests? Do you have a theme? etc. I believe that the celebration of the marriage is the most important part of every wedding. So I ask "How do you want your marriage to start?

Aside from the funny look I usually get, after a few more questions, i.e. Do you want it to be a big party at the beginning full of surprises, dancing, late night fun, after parties galore or do you want it to be a day filled with symbols of your romance, how God has blessed your union, and a celebration centered around your spirituality and your family?

After a few such questions, clients run with it. By asking this one simple question I have allowed my clients to probe a little deeper and it almost always ends up with us adding a few extra details that make the wedding infinitely more special to the bride and groom and their families. Adding your great-grandmothers broach to your bouquet, having family pictures on display, using the same prayer book that was used at your parents wedding, serving the same wine you had on your first date, or even hiring the DJ from the first club you went to together can all add unexpected touches of personality to your wedding, the start of your married life together.

Then we focus on the fabulous party portion.

So while you begin planning your special day, your once in a lifetime event, the wedding of your dreams, take a moment and think about the marriage that is to follow.
